Start Your Telehealth Practice Today: This introductory course is designed for occupational therapists and physical therapists who are certified hand therapists or upper extremity specialists who would like to learn more about the emerging field of upper extremity teletherapy, a subspecialty of telehealth. This course is for you if you are interested in adding this convenient service to your existing practice or private practice, or if you want to provide continuity of care for your patients that cannot travel to therapy due to time, weather, or location. All participants will learn the definition of telehealth, review research, reimbursement, rules and regulations. By the end of this course, you will also be able to review the steps to determine if a patient is appropriate for teletherapy, what your role is as a hand therapist, and how to use this method to provide the same quality care as traditional face to face therapy sessions. Lastly, Michelle will share recorded clips of real recorded teletherapy sessions and you will be provided with a recommended set up checklist to start you on your way to starting teletherapy. Mixed level learning course – Instructional Methods include PowerPoint presentation and lecture. Comprehensive exam provided at end of course.

Michelle Coil graduated with her Masters of Occupational Therapy in 2004 and became a Certified Hand Therapist in 2012. She has spent nearly 15 years in clinical practice in the areas of upper extremity orthopedic rehabilitation; and has developed expertise and special skills in functional cast fabrication and splint/orthotic interventions. In 2009, she made her first functional cast and has been sharing her craft ever since. She is a clinical pearl contributor to the upcoming second edition Splinting the Hand and Upper Extremity: Principles and Process chapter on functional casting. Currently, she is devoting her time as founder of Virtual Hand Care, LLC, a teletherapy platform for clients with UE injuries. She is passionate about the promotion of hand therapy and has created the Hand Nerds Facebook group to assist with mentoring clinicians. Michelle compliments her clinical work with additional certifications as an Ergonomic Assessment Specialist and Professional Yoga Therapist.
