Course Type: On-Demand, Video
This course is designed for clinicians who are looking to deepen their knowledge and expertise in the rehabilitation of flexor tendon injuries. Participants will learn evidence-based approaches and clinical techniques to optimize recovery, restore function, and prevent complications in patients with flexor tendon lacerations.
The course covers key topics in anatomy, tendon healing, surgical management, and clinical treatment strategies. All current protocols are thoroughly described. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the anatomy of the flexor tendons, the stages of tendon healing, orthotics, exercise progression and the critical role of rehabilitation in achieving functional recovery. Practical skills, including splinting, progressing exercises, and patient education, will be highlighted.

Description
Learning Outcomes
After participating in this session, attendees will be able to:
- Integrate knowledge of the anatomy and biology of flexor tendon healing to inform clinical reasoning in the rehabilitation of the flexor tendon patient.
- Compare the rationale and evidence base leading to the evolution of flexor tendon rehabilitation protocols over the past few decades
- Predict the strength of post-surgical flexor tendon repairs including factors that increase or decrease the work of flexion
- Compare and contrast the various flexor tendon protocols including orthotic geometry, allowed motion, and exercise prescription
- Differentiate flexor tendon zones and discuss modification in the rehabilitation process pertinent to each zone
- Demonstrate various exercises pertinent to early motion protocols, including passive motion, synergistic wrist motion, place-hold, and short-arc true active flexion
- Analyze the most up to date literature regarding early motion protocols, orthosis compliance, and incorporation of activities of daily living to inform evidence-based practice
- Detail the progression of treatment for the post-op flexor tendon patient using data driven information about tendon gliding.
